Buljarica Beach – the Secluded Natural Beach 4 km South of Petrovac „Plaža Buljarica”

Location: About 4 km east of Petrovac, between the Resovo and Dubovica hills

Length: About 2.4 km – one of the longest beaches on the Budva Riviera

Surface: Pebbles, sandier in the middle section

Further east of Petrovac stretches Buljarica Beach, sitting between the Adriatic, pine forests, olive groves and the mountain range. A nearby marsh and wetland attracts many species of birds. A beautiful walk (about 4 km) leads from Petrovac through gorgeous Mediterranean landscape to this 2.4 km long pebble beach.

During the holiday season, the contrast between the two ends of the beach is clear to see. At one end there’s a lively beach scene around bars and cafés, where you can also rent sunbeds and umbrellas. At the other end it’s much quieter – you can spread out your towel and simply enjoy the landscape. Here, just before the far end, there’s also a naturist (FKK) area.

The further south you go, the pebblier the beach becomes, but the backdrop stays the same: a green plain fringed by striking, forested headlands. Beyond the fields, the coastline rises up to the ever-present mountains that make up so much of Montenegro’s coast.

Good to know: Right behind the middle section of the beach lies a large, flat campground – ideal for motorhomes and campers, with direct access to the water. Wild camping outside designated campsites isn’t allowed in Montenegro, and it’s checked especially closely in July and August.

The shallow, rocky water is rich in marine life and works well for snorkelling, kayaking, and even kitesurfing when the wind is right.

Getting to Buljarica Beach

Walkable from Petrovac in about 25 minutes
About 10 minutes by car from Petrovac, directly on the Budva–Bar coastal road
Plenty of parking near the beach, partly paid at the campsite access

Insider tip: Combine your trip with a stop at nearby Gradište Monastery – just a few minutes’ drive away and a lovely contrast to the wide, open beach.
