Surface: Fine sand, grey-golden – dark volcanic stone & quartz

Best time to visit: June–August (families), September (kiting & surfing)
Ideal for: Families, kiters, surfers, campers, beach walkers
Velika Plaza — translated, „the Great Beach” — lives up to its name in every sense. A 14-kilometre stretch of sand, up to 100 metres wide, shimmering grey-gold in the sun. That distinctive colour comes from a mix of dark volcanic stone and fine quartz – a beach that looks like nothing else on the Adriatic.
The town of Ulcinj lies at Montenegro’s very southeastern tip, right on the Albanian border. Long Beach sits about 11 km outside the Old Town – and is so long that it never really feels crowded, even at the height of summer. If you’re after peace and quiet, just walk a little further along.
Long Beach – Everything You Need to Know
Swimming & Relaxing
The seabed slopes gently – ideal for families with children, who can play safely in the water. The water is warm, clear and far shallower than at the pebble beaches around Budva. Parents can relax on their sunbeds while the kids splash around in the shallows.
Kitesurfing & Surfing – Especially From September
Wind picks up noticeably from September onward, drawing kiters and surfers into the powerful waves. Long Beach is one of the best kitesurf spots on the entire Adriatic. If you’d like to try the sport, equipment can be rented at the beach bars, and beginner schools are also on site.
Beach Sections – Managed & Free
Long Beach is divided into several sections run by beach clubs. These offer infrastructure – toilets, showers, watersports activities, and sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. Between these sections there are plenty of free areas that can be used at no cost.
More Activities
Kitesurfing, beach volleyball, stand-up paddling and tennis — Long Beach offers far more than just swimming. Campsites right on the beach are also available, so it’s a great base if you want to stay several days. A worthwhile trip from here is nearby Lake Shas, a small natural paradise just behind the beach.
🗝 Insider tip: The western end of Long Beach, near Ada Bojana, is noticeably quieter than the middle section. Fewer sunbeds, water just as beautiful — you’ll almost feel like you have the beach to yourself.
